    And we're back!

Let me explain, back in May or June, there was a violent lightening storm. Lightening struck the power pole outside my house. The current travelled through the outside cable wire and entered my house.

On the first line, the charge hit the cable modem. That was shot instantly and there were scortch marks on the casing. I have digital phone service. That was next to get zapped. The charge went through my phone lines and destroyed a phone and a fax machine.

To top it all off, the current travelled through my cable modem and shorted my Ethernet adapter inside my computer. I am told it is a good thing my computer was off or the computer could have been plastic waste too.

I had the cable guys here twice before we found all the problems. I have since replaced my phones. The fax machine was not mandatory so it is still not replaced. I have a laptop, which I used for the last couple of months. But last week, I found I needed to get my computer fixed. I had to purchase two ethernet adapters before I found one that worked.

Can someone tell "the prince" he is only 3!

Apparently, he feels he is much older than his years.

Today, he so proudly exclaimed, "oh, look, my screw driver, I haven't played with that in years!"

Last week he said "mom, when I was 'the princesses age' ....."

So, to the grandma that said "boy they are growing up fast."

Yes, they are, just ask them!

    I need princess lessons!!

We had a girls night out last night. The princess (who is two) showed mom how to be a girl. We went to the mall and just hung out.

The boys were busy so the princess entertained. We went from store to store looking at everything princesses need.

She actually said "mom, mom look at all the diamonds!" We could not walk past the windows without her pointing to all the jewellery on display. Oh, the poor men in her life, they better have deep wallets.

I've forgotten to plan for little legs!

Today, I had my regular visit with my lung specialist. I had decided it would be no problem to take both kids to my breathing test then across the street to see my lung specialist.

Yeah, I said I took both kids!!

Because of my planning, I had books, cars, goodies and crackers for just that "special moment." What I forgot to plan was the distance we would have to walk.

If you can picture this, I had to park on a very busy street and walk the length of the hospital to get to the entrance. I then had to walk through the rest of the hospital to a building behind. I was able to check in for my test, then had to walk down a long corridor to the test room.

The test took about 20 minutes and really all mommy had to do was relax and breathe.

Once the test was complete we had to retrace our steps to the car so we could enter the specialists office. We entered the lobby got to the elevator and walked down the hallway to the office.

A little entertaining by me and we got called into the specialists office. After about 5 minutes, the appointment was complete. We just had to cross the busy street and get into the car.

I forgot to mention, it was pouring rain. I did have an umbrella but what good is that when the princess wants to push her limits of independence. She insisted she walk.

Oh, how slow those little legs actually move!!

    Oh, good their normal.

I just discovered something terrible. We have 307 days, 10 hours. 35 minutes and 3 seconds until the terrible twos end.

I might not post until then, I am way to tired from having someone disagree with me all day.

Best part, even a terrible two may disagree with what they had fought so hard for minutes ago. I guess that might mean in the next year, "the princess" may agree with me on the odd occasion.

Snow, snow and thanks for the tequila

We survived. It has just snowed the most snow I have ever seen in one snowfall at this property.

We spent the time playing and shovelling. I estimate we shovelled 16 times from Friday to Sunday morning.

    P. helped welcome and move the Mexican "off shore labour." They greeted him with two bottles of premium tequila and a pack of Camel cigs. I think it was very thoughtful considering they have nothing and come here trying to get ahead. P. loves working with these guys, they know how to work and are great company.

    Pretty in Pink

So, the princess, has decided to like one colour. I feel this is getting out of hand but then, I remember my mom telling me, "you wouldn't even let me come close to you with pink."

Somewhere I can hear the snickers "what goes around comes around" but really does it have to be only PINK. PINK THIS and PINK THAT. There is enough pink in this house to make up for my years of hating pink.

Yesterday, I had an argument with the princess, who, at the time was wearing only pink EXCEPT her underware. Seems blue underware is not up to code.

She has only been in underware for 3 weeks. I do not want a set back. So pink underware it was.

Sad part is, I only have two pink pairs of underware in this house. Maybe she can start to like purple too. Wouldn't that be great!!!!

    Round two.

Note to self, one should never complain about a lack of things to do.

This week is just going in circles. I seem to be cleaning floors again.

    This and that.

After my first computer upgrade, I have tweaked and tweaked some more. Finally, I have my colours and my monitor set up just right. To make myself clear, I am not sick or dizzy when I look at my computer. No, I have not upgraded from 7.04 to 7.10 yet. After lots of time yesterday, this morning was not so nice.

This morning seemed to be an exercise in patience. Between the cat and the kids, I have cleaned all the floors in my basement. Thankfully, the trio did not venture upstairs. I really did not want to wash the floors on that level.

Summer can not get here soon enough. We are tired of being inside.

The summer really needs to hurry up....

Being a stay at home mom sure has advantages. Today, I am pondering what to do next. I have scoured the library website for a little light reading. Funny, two of my selections included Linux and Html reference manuals. I looked at a little sewing reference book and then scoured the fiction area.

As happy as I was to finish reading the great series, now I am lost as to what to do with my time. I generally do not watch t.v. so that does not take up my time. In fact, I can not remember the last show I watched.

As I see it, my choices are
    1. Break my computer (upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10)
    2. Find something to read
    3. Start a sewing project

The only choice that looks the best to me right now.....Update my computer. So, if you do not see me for a couple of days. I may be working on a new problem learning more Ubuntu.

    Oh, there I am.

To me, it is funny how computers fit right into your life. For the past couple of days, I lost part of me. My desktop computer was down for a little lot of service.

It was not broken just in need of an experienced Linux person. Thankfully, I have that crutch so I am not forced to learn all the technical tools. But....

For a couple of days, I have not been in contact with my tech person so, I had to go it alone. Imagine, his schedule did not fit in with mine.

I did as much research into my problem as I could. I have a laptop that I could scour Ubuntu's website. I found some great information to read. The best part, the advice I received, from my tech person, I had already tried. (snicker) So, with a little help and lots of reassurance, my machine is back up and running. I am now working on purging the dead material (unneeded programs) from my root folder.

One of my problems, with Ubuntu, it is all free. You can always add interesting programs to your system. My problem. I had too many programs taking up too much space.

I learned a lot, most importantly, I also learned, I rely on my crutch too much. I am not really ready to get rid of my crutch but I think I may be a little more able to stand on my own wobbly legs.

The next big adventure, find out why comments do not work on this blog.

Looks like I've got a princess!

I don't know how it happened or when, my daughter wants to dress and act like a princess. She turned two last week and wants to wear skirts and tights everyday. When I finally get her dressed, she prances around the house doing twirls and princess moves.

I have no idea where those thoughts came from. I certainly did not make her that way. I can not stand tights or nylons for that matter. The only real use I have found for nylons is for tying up tomatoes or trees. I can only imagine, she is not going to be a gardener, she will not want to get her fingers dirty.

    Well, I am back.

I have not been posting much as of late. Sorry.

I was busy reading. I just finished a long journey though an eleven book series. In 16 weeks, I finished the series. I am thankful the writing was nearly completed when I started reading.

The first book of the series was written in 1995 and the last was released in November of 2007. I am glad I didn't have to wait over a decade to come to the final book. It was an interesting read but I don't think I would have continued to the end if I had wait that long.

I have mixed feelings about the books but I must have enjoyed the series to finish. So, if you want an interesting read, I would take a look at the first book, by T.erry G.oodkind, "Wi.zards First R.ule."

Not sure what to get your kids for Christmas?

With all the toy recalls lately, can we really trust the toys on the shelf? The Montreal Gazette published a story which examined lead testing kits.

The test examined 5 kits and found three kits to be acceptable although "limited as a screening tool." The one product they do recommended can be found easily.

If you are like me and are not sure about the toys in your own home or cannot find the toys on a recall list, why not check yourself.

    He talks crazy talk.

    What are we thinking?

The talk around the kitchen table as of late is insane.

Who in their right mind would travel 26 hours by car, from an area with an average low temperature of -4 degrees C. to an area where the average low temperature is -18 degrees C.

Why I hate this area. There is never a small snow fall, it is always worth shovelling.

    Snow covered trees

I knew I was pushing my luck not having the leaves raked but why rake until they all fall?
