Two People I Won't Miss
Murray Mandryk in today's Regina Leader Post scolds the 4400 voters who voted for Jim Pankiw in Battlefords-Lloydminster. He states,
But what happens to those politicians that just don't fit in the centre? Are they to simply to be marginalized? Weeded out?
Obviously, in the case of the Larry Spencers and the Jim Pankiws, that's a good thing. (Far be it from me to criticize voters for the way they exercise their franchises, but, honestly, what on Earth were those 4,396 voters in Battlefords-Lloydminster thinking when they cast their ballots for Pankiw?)
Mandryk then goes on a drawn out eulogy for Saskatchewan NDP MLA's Prebble and Crofford. The point, I guess, is that in this province, it's okay to make fun of right wing nut-jobs, but we honour the left wing nut-jobs.
These two have finally decided to get out of politics, but, honestly, what on Earth were those 4,317 voters of S'toon-Greystone and 4,226 voters of Regina-Rosemont thinking?
One one hand we have a foaming environmentalist who single-handedly moved an entire uranium refinery to Ontario from Saskatoon and more recently tried to get involved in the Saskatoon South Downtown development ruckus to save a dilapidated building that no one wanted. Both of these were wedge issues that divided the city
On the other hand we have Joanne Crofford. I don't really have anything against her, but wasn't she was the one that was forced to admit after the NDP ran an election on anti-privatisation, that TransGas was on the block. Hypocrisy at it's finest.
On the gripping hand, isn't it interesting that some of the big issues coming are polution, energy prices and coal powered generators (George Bush and clean coal notwithstanding) and Gov't interference in business. It's also interesting, as Mandryk points out, that a cabinet shuffle is coming soon. Hmmm, wasn't a recent campaign focused on integrity and integration rather then hypocrisy and wedge issues?
650CKOM says:
Good Luck Joanne, have fun with the four hours after business hours dealing with the paper work in this province. Also, better make it a store-front, not a home business, or you won't qualify for your "lowest utilities" rebate. Oh, and don't shop around for lowest prices for natural gas, because the Province won't give you a provincial rebate on energy costs unless you do business with the Crown Corp.
Good riddance to both these politicians, enjoy your pensions.
Cheers,
lance
