Echo Chamber

Idealistic Pragmatist makes an excellent point about the recent slew of posts regarding 'top ten bloggers' and 'top ten female bloggers'. It's one of those feel good meme's I guess.

In my perusing of the various posts on it, I was pretty much shaking my head on the whole thing.

It isn't just an echo chamber, its a mirrored room as well. On Saskblogs we have approximately 45 female bloggers, out of a total of 178 blogs. Add a few if you include group blogs, or husband/wife teams. That's about a quarter of the blogs.

The vast majority have absolutely nothing to do with politics. They aren't on the big Canadian blog rolls, except for Saskblogs. Does this mean that they don't count? No. What it does mean though is that IP is 100% correct, people who make the assumption that there aren't enough female bloggers really aren't looking hard enough.

Or, the 'top-tenners' don't care to look outside of their box, which do you think it is?

Cheers,
lance
